I know how to do some things on my computer — but I have the feeling that there are a lot of things I don’t know about technology that can help me do things faster — easier — or have more fun — if I knew about them.

But how do I learn about them?

My nephew Rob — who knows a lot more about technology that I do — has started a new blog — 170 Spoons — where he says he wants to be a “digital coach” — posting about different things in the world of technology that can help me — and others — with the search for ways to do things differently and more easily.

If you feel like you, too, need a “digital coach” why don’t you visit Rob’s new blog — or at least the first post where he explains the title!

Saturday I posted a PSA reminidng anyone who may have been reading my blog that Daylight Saving Time began early Sunday morning — and – unless you lived in several Indiana counties — you would need to set your clocks and watches up an hour to be “on time”.

Well — I was watching the news tonight and heard another “timely” piece of information:

At 3 seconds past 1:02 tomorrow morning the time, date, and year will be:

01:02:03/04/05/06

If you have a digital watch of clock that gives the hour, minute, second, month, date, and year you might be able to catch it.

But don’t blink — you’ll miss it!

Well — let’s start the week with a new word:

triperspectival

As my nephew Rob explains, triperspectival basically means talking about something from 3 different but related perspectives. Or triperspectival means that you can’t fully understand one without an idea of the other two.

I’m blogging this to help out Rob with his quest to corner the Google market on triperspectival, and also besause I think I just found a great illustration for my sermon for Trinity Sunday! Look for something triperspectival in a sermon on my Sermon Blog site next weekend!

If I can figure out how to pronounce it!

Until next time — Peace! Bill

I came across an article on how to read more — and comprehend more of what you read. Beng an avid reader, I thought I’d share it with you.

The aritcle is: Why Settle for Merely Reading a Book When You Can Master It? How to Read Less More, and Twice as Fast
by Greg Koukl. It’s a very good article on how to read more — and understand more of what you’ve read.

Here are some highlights:

Overview

Get a sense of the book in 5-10 minutes.
Read jacket copy, contents, skim preface & introduction, read conclusion (last 3 pages) and skim the index. Note publisher and date of publication.
Quickly page through the entire book at the rate of 2-3 seconds per page.

Determine if you want to read the book more thoroughly, give it away, or file it for future reference.

Preview
Skim entire book at a slower rate (4-10 seconds per page), breaking the book in as you go.
Look for structure, outline, key facts and concepts.
Write a quick summary for the book in pencil on title page.

Read
Preview each chapter again before you read it to get the structure (4-10 seconds per page).
Read every word at fastest comfortable speed using a pointer so you won’t wander, hesitate, regress, or lose your place. Mark the margin, but don’t underline the text.
Write a 1-4 sentence summary in pencil at the beginning of the chapter.
Sketch a quick outline or recall pattern.

Postview Immediately
Re-read the chapter quickly, focusing on marked sections, interacting with the text.
Refine your 1-4 sentence summary at the beginning of the chapter.
Review at regular intervals, looking over recall patterns and summary material.

I learned about this article from Stacey at Mind And Media

Until next time — Peace! Bill
