In “Church: Why Bother?,” Philip Yancey says the congregation goes to church to worship God, not to be entertained and that God, not we ourselves, is the audience during our worship service. He goes on to say that the congregation should be concerned that God–not the congregation– is pleased with what happens during the worship service and that what matters the most during the worship service takes place within the hearts of the congregation. Do you agree with these statements, or do you think Philip Yancey has lost sight of the purpose of worship?

Mary — Thanks for reading — and commenting — on my blog. I believe that Yancey — and so many others who have written on the same ideas — are right on target. Too many people critique worship based on how it touches them and not on how it glorifies God and how God can them through it. We need to understand that Worship should not be about us — but about God.
