My Week As A Redshirt
July 16th, 2009 · Posted in Christianity, Practical Christianity, Practical Ministry, What's Going On With Me · 0 CommentsIf you follow me on Face Book Twitter, or Friend Feed, you’ll know that last week I was with my youth group at the Group Work Camp in Athens, GA. Over 300 youth and adults from around the country worked on over 50 houses in Athens — doing some painting and some light construction. I served as a volunteer — what they call a “Red Shirt” (due to the red shirts we wore). My job for the week was to be a Site Coach — supervising the work at 6 different houses that were being painted. Anyone who know me knows that I am certainly not a master painter — but the other site coaches helped me out and we got through the week!
The week was a blessing to many folks — not only the folks in Athens, but the youth and adults who came to serve were also blessed in so many ways. I really admire the way the Group Work Camps Foundation puts the weeks together — the participants are not only blessed by opportunities to serve, but also with worship opportunities that were fantastic! Here is a link to an article that appreared in the Athens newspaper.
The week was truly a blessing to me. I grew in my faith — rediscovered my love for ministry — and was constantly reminded of how important it is to love and serve God and others. I also made friends that I hope to keep up with for a long time to come.
I praise God for the opportunity to serve and be served by so many folks!
