Barack Obama And Hope

January 20th, 2009 · Posted in Current Affairs, Politics · 0 Comments

As I listened to President Obama’s Inauguration speech today, I was struck by how well he communicated hope and optimism — instead of fear and pessimism. I did not hear many specifics of what he plans to do or how he plans to accomplish his goals, but I did hear him communicate a vision of a country — indeed a world — that could be better if we would focus on the things we have in common instead of the things that divide us.

I like his optimism. It’s not one of “everything is going great” — there are many problems we face and he acknowledged that. His is an optimism based on the fact that we can work together — work past our problems and differences — and find real solutions.

Whether you voted for Obama or not, he is the President — and we need to pray for him. We need to pray for all our leaders and all Americans so that we can be blessed with God’s solutions to our problems — and work together for the good of all people.

My nephew Rob posted on twitter this morning that we all needed to reaffirm our citizenship today. Let’s do that — and reaffirm our faith also.
