Do Your Part — Vote and Pray For America

November 3rd, 2008 · Posted in Current Affairs, Politics ·

The citizens of the United Sates are making a very important decision tomorrow — the decision of who will lead our country, for the next four years. There has been a lot of talk about policy and who will do what, but the important thing to remember after all the rhetoric has been spoken is that God is in control – not us or any other man or woman.

As you prepare to vote, pray that God will guide you in voting for the candidate that will work for His will for peace, justice, and life — as well as His love in the world. No one candidate perfectly has all these qualities in their policies, so we will surely not agree on which candidate to vote for, but we can all pray for God to bless our country and our world with His will, and our leaders with His wisdom.

Hopewell Presbyterian — the Church I serve — is a polling place and will have the sanctuary open for anyone who would like to do so to be able to come in and pray. I hope other churches do this also.

My nephew Rob has this post on various web sites you can go to to follow the election online and learn more about the candidates.

Here is a prayer you might want to pray as you prepare to vote:

O Lord, our governor Your glory shines throughout the world. We commend our nation to Your merciful care, that we may live securely in peace and may be guided by Your providence.

Guide us as we elect our leaders, and give all in authority the wisdom and strength to know Your will and to do it. Help them remember that they are called to serve the people as lovers and doers of Your will. We e make this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

I urge everyone to do their part — vote — and pray for America.
