A Facebook Church?
May 22nd, 2008 · Posted in Practical Ministry ·There are so many ways for folks to connect these days — and one of these is the application Facebook.
Facebook is a great way to connect with friends and groups that you want to learn from or share with. I use my Facebook page to network with others who are interested in some of the same things I am interested in — such as Church growth, Church transformation, and — yes — even sports. I have even found high school friends I have not actually seen in over 34 years on Facebook!
My question is this — how can Churches — or groups of Churches — use Facebook to connect with and share ideas with each other?
Do you know of any Churches that use Facebook groups to have conversations about topics “between meetings”?
How effective do you feel Facebook is being used by ministers and other leaders to share ideas and network with others?
I see a lot of possibilities out there in Faceboook land.
What about you?
O — and if you feel the urge to visit my Facebook page — I’d be glad to add you as one of my Facebook friends!

Bill… Good to get to know you. [Thanks Rob!]
Who knows just what God might do as a result of the body of Christ (esp. in a given community) connecting and communicating like a team on a mission together?
Personally, I’ve pushed all my chips in on that bet. Connect great (Bible-believing) hearts & minds; they’ll better sharpen each other on God’s Word and figure out what to do to apply it in our communities today.
I cannot think of a better way to make a quantum leap in the Great Commission, than to help build (and cast) the ‘net’ so we can pervasively ‘fish together’.
Btw, in answer to your post question…
Last Sunday the (middle-aged) pastor of our small church (of 75) casually mentioned that the youth pastor would be doing a gig that evening… for 150 participants… all of which were ONLY invited via Facebook. [Wait, back-up. Say that again, Pastor. Now again. Turn to your neighbor and say "Say What?" LOL]

I love the story IndyChristian shared — and have added many of the “friends” Rob suggested!
Thanks guys!
Any other ideas out there?

You might find that Livekite.com is a better solution for your church than facebook. It is fully customizable and isn’t nearly as cluttered. The look and feel of Livekite is more welcoming for a wider age demographic than facebook or myspace.
