Leading The Conversation

March 24th, 2008 · Posted in Practical Ministry ·

Todd Rhoades at Monday Morning Insight has a post this morning that at first glance seemed to me to be unnecessary — but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it is very necessary.

Here’s what he wrote:

“One area of church leadership that is almost never talked about is what I call, ‘leading the conversation about your church.’ Someone will lead how people talk about your church and what people say about your church. I believe we should not leave this to the loudest voice or the person with the most out-going personality. As leaders we should also lead, direct, and influence the conversation about our church.”

Like I said — at first I thought this was an unnecessary observation — until I began to consider how many times I failed to lead the conversation or set the agenda for the Church — then someone else lead the conversation in a way I would have preferred it not go.

Leading the conversation — and setting the agenda — for the Church is truly a mark of leadership.
