Sermon: Matthew 6:19-34
August 7th, 2007 · Posted in SERMONS · 0 CommentsI’ve had some internet connection problems the last few days, so my posts have been sporadic — but here’s my sermon from last Sunday. It’s part 6 in my Sermon On The Mount series — based on Matthew 6:19-34 and entitled “Walk Like Jesus Walked: Walk In Trust.”
Here’s a portion of it:
Do you remember the catchy tune from over 20n years ago with the lyrics:
Here’s a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don’t worry, be happyIt was jazz singer Bobby McFerrin’s huge hit — “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” The song was his only claim to fame – but no doubt you’ve heard it. It has already made him a bundle of money, but if he received a nickel for each time his song was mentioned in a speech or a sermon, he would be richer than Bill Gates! It became popular again several years ago as “The Amazing Singing Fish” that some people had hanging on their walls whistled and sang the tune. It really became a joke in Sally’s family because her Dad had the fish hanging on the wall of his room in the Nursing Home – and he and his friends got a kick out of it.
The song struck a chord with people not just because it has a catchy melody, but also because it touches on a subject we all struggle with – the subject being: worry.
