Church Hoppers

June 26th, 2007 · Posted in Practical Ministry ·

Todd Rhoades of Monday Morning Insgights writes that statistics show that 1 in 4 church attendees switch churches every 5 years, and that only 7% of new attendees to a church consider themselves “unchurched” — which tells me they are switching from one church to another.

These statistics raise a couple of questions for me:

1. Why are such a high percentage of people switching churches?
2. What can a church do to keep members instead of having them switch?

I realise that at times there are problems in churches that make people go to another church (sometimes the people switching are the problem!), but these numbers seem high.

I’d love to know what you think about these statistics and the questions I raise, particularly the second question.
