Purpose 4 of Rick Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Life is:

You Were Shaped For Serving God

Warren continues this discussion with day 31 — Understanding Your Shape. Beginning with the sentence: Only you can be you Warren emphasizes that each person is unique, so each Christian needs to discover, then use, their unique gifts to serve God and others.

In day 30 (Shaped For Serving God) Warren began his discussion of the acrostic SHAPE that he developed to help you identify your gifts for ministry:

Spiritual gifts
Heart
Abilities
Personality
Experience

He continues the discussion here is day 31.

Abilities
These are the natural talents you were born with. Warren emphasizes that all your abilities come from God, and every ability you have can be used for God’s glory. God wants us to do for His glory what you are able to do.

Personality
Your particular gifts are very important for God’s purposes — just as the unique gifts others have are important. All the different gifts we have, when added together, makes the church stronger and gets God’s work done.

Experience
God uses all the experiences of your life to make you who you are and give you the gifts you have.

SHAPE

Spiritual gifts
Heart
Abilities
Personality
Experience

These are the things that work together to give you the unique gifts for ministry God has given you. Whatever your “shape”, you need to use it for God’s glory.

Lord — I know you have shaped me for ministry. Let me discover my unique gifts, and use them for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
