Purpose 4 of Rick Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Life is:

You Were Shaped For Serving God

Warren begins discussing this purpose in day 29 — Accepting Your Assignment. Beginning with the sentence:You were put on earth to make a contribution Warren emphasizes that God’s purpose for you is for you to to add something to life, not just take from it.

Warren gives 4 important points about service:

1. You were created to serve God.
God has given you specific gifts and abilities to use in serving Him. To live out your God - given purpose, you have to use the gifts God has given you to make a difference in the lives of others.

2. You were saved to serve God.

One of the purposes of your salvation is so you can serve God. We don’t serve God out of guilt, but out of gratitude for what God has done for us.

3. You are called to serve God.
Many people feel that only full time religious workers are called by God. Actually, we all are called by God to use our particular gifts to serve Him and others.
All Christians are called by God.
You are called by God.

4. You are commanded to serve God.
Serving God is not optional. It is not something you can do if you have the time. It is necessary.

God calls you to serve Him. There are no good excuses for not doing so.

Lord God, Help me to find the place and the way You would have me to serve, and strengthen me to do so. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
