Purpose 2 in Rick Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Life is:

You Were Formed For God’s Family

Warren begins the study of this purpose in day 15 — Formed For God’s Family.

He begins day 15 with 2 sentences:

You were formed for God’s family.
God wants a family, and He wants you to be part of it.

The Bible is the story of God creating a family that will love and honor Him — and reign with Him forever. He wants you to be a part of that family! How can you be a part of that family? Just as you are born into your physical family, you have to be born again into the family God wants you to be a part of. This means accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior, and trying to live in His ways.

There are many benefits to being a part of this family. Some of the ones Warren brings up are:

1. You will be with God forever. (1 Thessalonians 5:10)
2. You will be changed and will be like Christ. (1 John 3:2)
3. You will be freed from all pain, death, and suffering. (Revelation 21:4)
4. You will be rewarded and reassigned positions of service. (Mark 9:41)
5. You will share in Christ’s glory. (Romans 8:17)

This is indeed a rich inheritance!
To receive it, you have to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins (which He will do), and take Him as your Lord and Savior. If you have not done that already, do it now!

Days 16-21 in The Purpose Driven Life will deal with more aspects of what it means to be a part of God’s family, but for now let yourself be a part — and celebrate what that means!

Lord — I praise You that you have created me to be a part of Your family. I take You as my Lord and Savior, and celebrate the promises You have given me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
