The Lost Tomb Of Jesus?

The Discovery Chanel will air a documentary this Sunday night claiming that the tomb of Jesus has been discovered.

From what I have seen about the show the evidence is shaky at best. A family tomb containing “burial boxes” with inscriptions of Joseph, Mary, Jesus, Mary Magdalene (actually the box does not say that — the Greek inscription is best translated “Mary, known as master”), and Judah — supposedly a son of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

Of course, it can not be proven that these boxes contain the remains of Jesus and his family — but thanks to The DaVinci Code people are taking many unproven ideas to be truth. and when you add in the “burial box” talk of the ‘burial box” of “Jesus”, “Mary Magdalene”, and a son being found found together — well, people jump on it as being truth.

From my perspective, I choose to believe what the Bible says.

Here is a link to an article that has many more links to articles that discuss this issue from a Christian perspective.

I encourage people to look at the web site for the Discovery Chanel show - and even watch the show — but to remember what the Bible teaches. I feel that a lot of people will be talking about the show. Christians need to know what the show says so we can present an informed rebuttal.

Bill,

I completely agree that Christians need to know the material that is out there so they can be prepared to answer to it. I guess I’ll have to set my recorder to pick up that program.
