As a lifelong Episcopalian, I often get in interesting discussions with my evangelical friends. While we love each other dearly, whenever we get into a heated debate about theology or philosphy, their mantra is always "You just don't understand Scripture." This patronizing perspective irritates me. Scripture was meant to be thought about, meditated upon, and studied. For one group of people to insist that only they understand it completely is akin to being a false prophet. I run a business that actually sells the same pre-filled Communion cups that are included in Gregory Dickow's monthly shipments. While it would be in my own best interest to encourage these evangelical folks to have Communion every day (hey, why not three times a day!) there is a voice inside of me that tells me it would be wrong to do so. I believe that voice is know as a "conscience," God's second greatest gift to humankind. Unfortunately, God'd third greatest gift "free will" often gets in the way and convinces us that we know better than God.

Communion is intended to be thoughtful, meditative, bonding and special. Turning it into an everyday experience, like brushing one's teeth, would be undermining to the power it should hold in our hearts.

God bless you Bill!

I agree with John and I don't think you have a full understanding of communion and the Power in the Blood of Jesus Christ. I had a breakthrough with my probigal son [ of 6 years ]after listening to Pastor Greg and learning more about communion. We need to be very careful about knocking other Pastors and Christians as God alone is the judge....

Bill:

I believe that we are in an age when too many are trying to sell something that was already paid for on the cross.

The scripture warns us that in the last days there will be those that try to preach the Gospel for "filthy lucre's" sake.

John -- Thanks for reading my blog and adding to the discussion here. I have several problems with what Greg Dickow is doing. First, I believe that he is trying to make a profit off of the sacrament. Secondly, I believe that the sacrament is a way for us to remember what Jesus did for us. The power is not in the elements but in the Holy Spirit that works through the elements to help us remember Christ's sacrifice for us and strengthens us to live in His ways.

I don't think you fully understand communion and what God has provided us with in this gift. The Word has MANY MANY things to say about communion and before you criticize Pastor Greg for teaching the truth, I suggest you listen so that you can understand all the scriptures involved. I think you will learn something you didn't know before. I know I did. We don't take communion just to 'remember' and that's all. We take it because there is POWER in his body and blood to CHANGE circumstances. Jesus didn't die on the cross just for us to remember Him...He died so that we could LIVE and be overcomers in this life...

What happened, Bill, when the children of Israel were to told to partake of the WHOLE animal that was sacrificed? And did you know that when we partake of the body and the blood that we usher in God's wisdom? Are you aware that the Bible teaches this? ANd there is so much more in the Bible concerning communion...

Please do some study on this before you attack a minister who is preaching the Word on this....and seeing real miracles in his church on a weekly basis. He is choosing to believe God. I think we all need to do that...

Thanks to both for reading, commenting, and "giving me a plug". I agree with the folks at Church Website design -- God calls us to serve, not be served. We truly have got it all bassakwards!
