Reflections On The New Year

It’s indeed that day — January 1, 2007. A new year has begun — so, like a lot of others, I will be looking back at 2006 and ahead to 2007.

Here are some things that have happened in my life and this blog in 2006:

In My Life — 2006
2006 was a year of transition and change for Sally and me. We began the year with me being the Pastor of the Wentworth Presbyterian Church in Wentworth, NC — which I had been for the last 22 years. I was also in my third year as the Director of the Reidsville Outreach Center. Sally was teaching Pottery classes at Rockingham Community College.

In May things began to change as we began talking to members of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Florence, SC. By July it was apparent that God was calling us to serve Hopewell, the call was issued, and in September we moved to Florence and I began serving Hopewell. I can’t say the transition was easy — but I can say without a doubt that God’s hand was in the midst of it all — and God has blessed Sally and me with a wonderful Church to serve and wonderful folks to share our lives with.

On The Blog — 2006
My blog took on a new look — a new server — and I believe a new emphasis in 2006. I began the year with a blogspot blog — then switched to wordpress — and now have my own “domain name” and “web host“. After a “blogging hiatus” of several months while I attempted to get a broadband connection in my new location, I was back to blogging by October, and began using my blog to post more reflective articles on religion, theology, and current events.

Here are some things I hope to do in my life and on my blog in 2007:

In My Life — 2007
Besides the usual plan to lose weight and exercise more, I plan to deepen my relationship with Sally and with God.
To deepen my relationship with Sally I plan to spend time with her — taking time just to be with her. Our schedules in Wentworth made that difficult, but I pray we will find a way to do that now.
To deepen my relationship with God I am planning to spend at least an hour in prayer, reading scripture, and reading other books and articles on the Christian life most mornings. This will be separate from sermon preparation. I joined the Shepherd’s Fellowship in December, which gives me access to many articles about the Christian life that I plan to read to make my walk with Christ more meaningful for me. I also plan to read Christian Classics which I will download from the Christian Ethereal Library.

On My Blog — 2007
I hope to give my blog a new look soon. I’ll be in conversation with my web host to see what kind of plans we can make to spruce things up a bit.
I hope to use the blog as a way to share reflections on things I read or current events from a Christian perspective. I am rediscovering the Reformed Christian tradition and doing a lot of reading from that perspective, so many of my posts will reflect that. I hope this blog can be a way to share ideas on God and ministry that will be encouraging as well as insightful (and at times humorous) for all who read it.

So — there you have my “look back” and “look ahead” at my life and my blog. May God richly bless us all this new year — and always!

[...] I’ve been posting about my New Year’s Resolutions and Jonathan Edward’s resolutions — here’s a New Year’s Resolution of a different sort — the JollyBlogger has resolved to Dare To Be A Sinner In 2007 — and gives some darn good reasons for doing so! [...]

Wow, I REALLY like the new look! You weren’t kidding when you said you were going to ‘spruce things up.’

Very nice indeed!
