Guthrie Scholar

I am spedning a week at Columbia Theological Seminary taking part in the Guthrie Scholars Program.

Shirley Guthrie was a Reformed Theology professor at Columbia for over 40 years and helped educate and inform many ministers during that time, including me.

The Guthrie Scholars program is designed as a week for research and reflection on topics that the participants choose and feel a need to address in their ministry. Our 5 member group (all of which graduated from Columbia with me and 3 of which I had not seen since graduation 22 years ago) has already met with Bill Brown, one of the professors at Columbia , to discuss how to use Old Testament scripture to address modern society. Very interesting!

I hope to continue to look into how to reclaim scriptural authority for today’s world — will post more later.
