LENT: DAY 6 — UNSETTLING

These are unsettling passages as Jesus calls for total commitment — and costly discipleship. Sometimes I wonder if I would have followed Jesus had I been living in His day and heard all He was saying — without the benefit of a faith tradition to build on. Jesus’ promising that people would hate the disciples — persecute them — and even kill them could not have been easy words for them to hear!
So — would I have followed — even after hearing words like these?
I hope so!
I look at how hard it is for me even now to give of myself and follow — and am amazed that anyone took Jesus up on his offer — and followed.
