THE 7TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS
December 31st, 2005 · Posted in The Church Year · 0 CommentsI came across this blog in a post at Monastic Mumblings. It has devotional material for each of the 12 days of the Christmas season — giving some explanation and a religious interpretation to the carol "The 12 Days Of Christmas".
I know I’m late in doing it — but I want to post on these devotionals each day from now until January 6 (the 12th Day Of Christmas — The Day of Epiphany).
So — here is today’s:
“On the 7th day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Seven Swans A-swimming.â€
The seven swans a-swimming represent the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhortation, giving, leading, and compassion (Romans 12:6-8; cf. 1 Corinthians 12:8-11, and Ephesians 4:1-16). God did not leave us unable to fulfill his desire to bring all things under the lordship of Christ (Ephesians 1). He gave to us gifts that would enable us to work together as one body, His body. These gifts were given to the people of God to enhance their relationships with one another and the world. We are to be proactive in the use of these gifts. We are to exercise them and use them. Swimmers are gifted athletes, disciplined in the pursuit of their sport. We who are the body of Christ, are to be active in the pursuit of God’s will, love and grace. Like trained swimmers we are to be in the pool “about our Father’s business.â€
Action Point: How are you using your gifts as individuals…as a community? What gifts do you see present in your faith community?
