Who Loses The Most?

September 1st, 2005 · Posted in Current Affairs, Reflections ·

OK — this is the post I meant to post last night — but for some reason did not get published!

When I look at the people who lost the most in the deavastation of Hurrcane Katrina, it is clear to me that the ones who lost the most were the ones who could not have much to loseThe poor seem to have lost more than the rich — those who were already struggling to survie seem to have lost more than those who seem to be better off financially. It was the poor who had no way out of the way of the storm and had to stay while those who could afford it left.  It was the poor who lived in the lower lying areas that were flooded while the rich lived in houses on higher ground. It was the poor whose houses could not withstand the wind and rain. It is the poor who are looting – which is turning others against them.

It is very sad that the ones who could not afford to lose — lost!

Jim Wallis at Sojourners has a wonderful post on this subject.

Pray for all victims — but especaily those who had such little to lose — and lot it all!
