Confessions Of A Fantasy Football - A - Holic
August 26th, 2005 · Posted in Humor ·OK — a little break from the posts about Robertson and Osama.
Tomorrow is an important day for me. For one thing, I turn 50 (more on that tomorrow) — but for another thing, it’s Draft Day in the East Coast Fantasy Football League! You may wonder why a 50 year old man gets excited about Fantasy League Football — well, it fun — it has become something of a tradition (this is my 4th year) and — I must confess — I’m addicted to it! Adrian Warnock had a post the other day about being a blogaholic – I can relate to that. But I am also a Fantasy Football - A - Holic.
For the past few weeks I have been going to my favorite Fantasy Football Information site and getting the latest news — like is Terrell Owens going to perform this year or should I shy away from drafting Donovan McNabb? I get pretty worked up about things like that.
Like I said, I’m addicted. On Sundays during the season I can be found making last minute changes in my lineup — sometimes trying to get someone else to start the worship service so I can get the last minute information. Well, it’s not really that bad — but close! Sunday nights during the season have become times when my nephew, Rob, (who is also in my Fantasy Football League — even the same division — so our teams will play each other twice this year) and I IM each other about the day’s games. My wife, Sally, knows better than to interrupt these times.
Anyway — tomorrow is draft day — and my birthday. We have a live draft which means all the ones involved can go to a web site and draft the players — or they can set a "draft robot" with the players they want and let it do it for them. The problem is Sally is planning a big party — (over 100 folks coming) — which is very humbling to me that over 100 folks would want to come and celebrate my birthday. I need (and really want ) to be at the party, of course — but I also "need" (and really want) to be online with the draft. Of course, I can let the "robot" on our draft site make the picks for me — or Sally suggested letting Rob make my picks for me (she obviously does not understand the competitive nature of the game — sorry Rob — that is not going to happen).
I think you know what I’ve decided — "draft live" as long as I can — set the "robot" to draft the rest of the way for me — go the the party– enjoy it — and hope for the best.
Rob has a great post about people who obsess over Fantasy League Football drafts. In it he quotes another article that says:
It’s not your wedding, pal
OK — maybe not! But it is fun! Keep me in mind tomorrow as I try to be 2 places at once!

I send my regrets that we can’t make the party. And I also regret that tomorrow is the beginning of a long season for you.
